Credit hour definition and academic workload
1. Semester credit system
Kisread University, Inc. operates exclusively on a semester credit system. The University does not offer or award academic programs measured in clock hours. All courses, academic requirements, and degree programs are expressed and evaluated in semester credits.
2. Definition of one semester credit
For lecture and theory-based coursework, one semester credit represents approximately 45 hours of total academic engagement and preparation: 15 hours of academic engagement and 30 hours of outside preparation and independent academic work. This structure is consistent with the traditional Carnegie-unit-equivalent approach to determining academic workload.
For fully online distance education, academic engagement may include:
Reading assigned textbooks, articles, and instructional materials
Watching recorded or streamed lectures and instructional presentations
Participating in online discussions and discussion posts
Completing quizzes and examinations
Preparing and submitting assignments and projects
Conducting research and academic activities
Participating in faculty-guided learning activities
Reviewing and responding to faculty feedback
Outside preparation may include independent reading, studying, research, writing, problem-solving, preparation for assessments, completion of assignments, and other academically related work necessary to achieve the course learning outcomes.
